Vladislav Delay – Toive and EVOL on Soundfollies6

Amazing video from Vladislav Delay, with his new track "Toive"

Vladislav Delay - Toive from Leaf Label on Vimeo.

Video by Carolina Melis & Lorenzo Sportiello
Finnish composer Sasu Ripatti made the album Tummaa while living on a remote island in the Arctic Circle during Finland’s “kaamos” season, when there are only a few hours of light a day. “Tummaa means dark or darkness, which reflects the music on the album,” he says. Part of this track’s darkness is born of confusion: “Toive” sounds electronic, but it isn’t. Tummaa features Ripatti on percussion, Agentina’s Lucio Capece on clarinet and saxophone, and Scotland’s soundtrack composer Craig Armstrong on piano and Rhodes. This particular track is a melding of percussion, Rhodes and creepy feedback.
In keeping with this disorienting effect, directors Carolina Melis (who has directed videos for other Leaf Label artists including Efterklang and Colleen) and Lorenzo Sportiello fuse natural and artificial elements. The music starts off tinkling and repetitive to build into an ominous hammering, with neon lights cutting through crystals, beads, eggs, stones, shards of glass, pyramids and the like. Forming the central motif, snowballs and icicles move backward from fractured to whole form, and it’s somehow terrifying. Trick or treat. (Witten by Jenna Humphrey. Published at Prefix Magazine.)

EVOL is a computer music cell started in 1996. At the core of the project is Roc Jiménez de Cisneros, a musician and composer living and working in Barcelona. Occasional EVOL members and/or collaborators include Aarhus-based sound artist Rubén Patiño, Danish composer and multi-instrumentist Jakob Draminsky Højmark, English sound artist Joe Gilmore, Spanish writer and sound artist Anna María Ramos, English video artist Andy Davies, and Scottish sound artist Joel Ongthorne. Their work have been released on internationally acclaimed record labels such as Mego, Entr'acte, Lucky Kitchen, Diskono, Scarcelight, Antifrost, fals.ch or their very own ALKU.
In 2003 the group started a series of electroacoustic pieces entitled 'Punani' which addresses some of the main aspects of their work, namely: algorithmic composition, noise, psychedelia, system trajectories and the musical application of fractal geometry and other mathematical phenomena, somewhere in between Denis Smalley's concept of "spectromorphology" and what Agostino Di Scipio called "functional iteration synthesis".

絶対見たい。これだけでは終わらない、泣く子もさらに泣くKiyoshi Mizutaniです。今や伝説の”元”Merzbow、が久しぶりにメディアへ現れます。

Miztutani was a member of Merzbow in the 80’s and has done solo work since 1989. He has recordings on Ulcer House, ZSF Produkt, Shirocoal Recordings, NEdS, Sounds For Consciousness Rape, Pure, Artware, Kaon, e(r)ostrate, Povertech Industries and Flenix Records.

shotahirama his solo myspace is now open!

"shotahirama" by Shota Hirama. His solo official myspace is now open:))

shotahirama is a Japanese-American Sound Artist located in Tokyo, inspired by Modern Art, Dada and Bauhaus. Also known for the founding of the Edition NIkO (NIkO Label), ENG (electronoise group) and JANDEATH. His musical focus is characterized by digital synth and field recording with computer software processing and improvisation, which generates a large palette of possible sounds including; grainy textures, complex patterns of smooth drones, and microscopic clicks and cuts. shota' music is electroacoustic in nature, in that both analogue and digital worlds are fused into one.

Shota, as a solo artist or in other project, has released music on the following record labels: Improvised Music From Japan (Japan. coming soon), Re-Records (Hongkong. coming soon), Under The Spire Recordings (UK, coming soon), and net labels: TecnoNucleo (Spain), Alg-a (Spain), NTNS Radio (Netherlands). He has toured throughout England, and Japan in 2008. He has played the same events with Christophe Charles (Mille Plateaux), Chihei Hatakeyama (Kranky), Tetsuo Furudate (Subrosa), MICLODIET (SOUP), Kelly Churko, Cal Lyall (testtone), Monooka, Yuji Kondo, enormous O'clock (AI Records), Hakobune (U-Cover)...

In early 2006 he founded his main project, radical free/spontaneous music/art ensemble, The Electronoise Group (ENG). It is a group that are making concrete drone sounds with their free-improv expression and the ideas from "laptop" "noise" and "Art". Using laptop, tape-operation, and tape-loop, generated guitar, the project ideal is to express the content of various psycho pathological conditions, especially depressive psychosis, and paranoia. And also making an art design, a photomontage with strong attention to Dada and Bauhaus.
ENG/electronoise group official myspace
ENG was initially composed of shotahirama on tape-operation, Toshitaka Ikeda on guitar and shunjiTAKAMI on laptop. Musicians were free to join in, but such collaborations were often short-lived if the contributions were lacking the proper spirit or whatever. No ENG performance is ever planned; each is unique and spontaneous. The musicians vowed never to rehearse and never to discuss what they had played.
And the artists who joined in ENG were: shotahirama (2006-2009) Toshitaka Ikeda (2006-2008) shunjiTAKAMI (2006-2007) Kelly Churko (2009) Cal Lyall (2009) Taishin Inoue (2009) Blackphone666 (2009) Daisuke Kitabayashi from FPB (2008-2009) Monooka (2008) Darren McClure (2008) Yuji Kondo (2008) Emiko Shirayama (2008) Okamoto (2006-2007) shimizu aka Karel (2006-2007) Hasegawa (2006) Sachio Matsuda (2006) Linda Bjalla (2007) Sanpo Matsumoto (2007) Matsuoka from BAAAK BONKDOM (2007) Kendrien (2006-2007) Takano from APAP (2008) Gunji from Disk3 (2006)

In 2007, shota founded a non profit label, Edition NIkO. It is a label cooperation for electronic music based in Tokyo. The main interest was to give uniting sound and art design with strong attention to scientific sequences, Dada, Bauhaus, and drone ambient sound scapes. A surrealistic minimalism. So, priority is to publish series with focus on a specific philosophy of music/ sound/ art composing. Also it is a platform for conceptional and experimental related projects in music, art and sciencemusic both by himself (shotahirama) and by other artists and musicians. Jerome Faria (NNY), Kasper T Toeplitz, Shoeb Ahmad, Nicolas Wiese, SIFIR, Kim_Nasung, SIN:NED, Edwin Lo...etc.

He also curate "Deep Listening Chair Festival". It is one of most famous Tokyo's festival for Experimental Digital Music and related Visual Arts. Festival takes place under the theme Surrealistic Minimalism. Sound and other media since 2007 at various venues in Tokyo. DLC will address both theoretical and practical aspects of today’s independent and experimental music production at the intersections of digital music and sound & media arts. Artists, experts and theorists will present their work as a means to pool knowledge and sketch out the sector’s future prospects. Visitors can hone their personal skills in workshops designed to encourage and support DIY experimentation. Selected projects and initiatives will demonstrate what they do in a hybrid formats fusing exhibitions and work-in-progress sessions that engage visitors’ participation. Actions and installations will illustrate further examples of creative output wiring music, art and digital culture.

In 2008, shota started his new project, JANDEATH. It was a stage name for shota using art and music as complementary tools to create rhythmic, minimal electronic music. Sometimes harsh, sometimes remarkably gentle but danceable, his music has a strong focus on complex and chaotic rhythm, driving percussion, and meticulous sequencing. Many of his tracks contain chaotic rhythms and close harmonies which some hear as random and noisy. True to his early techno roots, JANDEATH use a wide array of analog synths in their production, as well as analog and digital drum machines, mixers, effects units and samplers. JANDEATH have experimented in depth with development environments such as Reaktor, and Processing. He also used the Elektron Machinedrum and Monomachine in his live performances.

Also work with an organizing member of the Shinjuku-based Soup collective, MICLO DIET in 2008, project was named MICLODEATH.
